Stop and Smell the Rose City Spots

Portland MapFrom the Pearl to South Waterfront and Slabtown to Richmond we tagged all of Portland’s designated motorbike parking with 100 spots at 40 locations across the city. As of today, our locations in PDX now put CurbNinja in seven cities across the country!

Portland, like Seattle and San Francisco offers metered motorbike parking to riders across the city with concentrations in the center. When it comes down to the details, Portland makes it simple. All meters have hours of 8am-7pm Monday through Friday and 1pm-7pm Sunday. Most locations have no time limitations, but a few can be as short at 1hr. Every meter across the city costs $1.60/hr, which we still think is pricey for motorcycles (San Francisco offers rates as low as $0.25/hr) but its nice to have the consistency and all accept credit cards.

PDX ParkingWhile the city doesn’t offer any free parking in its core, it does have a large location at the airport. There are over 50 free spots available with no restrictions to bikers taking flights. The spots are right near the terminal entrance and are semi-covered under a viaduct. As long as you can fit all your luggage on your bike these spots are super handy!

The city does need to work on its marking of the spots. 90% of the spots have painted lines, but in most case they are faded and in some no-existent. Riders should be aware to look carefully for the “Motorcycle Parking Only” sign and the curb paint. Not quite up to the Seattle standards, but a good start indeed!

Oh, and we almost forgot; we tagged 30 businesses from service shops to cafes that all cater to bikers in PDX! If you know more, shoot us a note and we’ll add it.
